The report this year says that over 100,000 men had left the state to serve in the Union forces, but that the agricultural productions had been bountiful and able to meet the needs of the times. Emphasis is herein made regarding inventions that have helped to increase production while suffering a loss of manpower.

Among the papers presented are Rabies in a Flock of Sheep; On the Breeding of Horses; Survey of the County of Orange; The Associated Dairies and Cheese Manufacturies of New York; Destructive Insects, and the Immense Utility of Birds; London International Exhibition of Works of Industry and Art, 1862.

The Society was founded in 1832 to promote agricultural development in New York State. It is still in operation and is now the oldest organization of its kind in the United States.
