Thomas Burke (1830-1882), born in Ireland, Dominican priest and celebrated preacher. His preaching abilities were noted both in his native land and in Rome, where he was active. In 1871 he was sent as Visitor to the Dominican convents in America, and he was besieged with invitations to preach and lecture. In eighteen months he gave 400 lectures in overflowing churches and lecture halls. This work consists of 33 addresses on various topics, including several on the Catholic Church in the United States.
