Signed inside the front cover by Thomas House Taylor (1799-1868), b. Georgetown, South Carolina; d. West Park, New York. Taylor was a Protestant Episcopal clergyman who graduated from South Carolina College, Columbia and studied theology under Bishop White. He was the rector of a church on John's Island, SC, and from 1834 to 1867 of Grace Church, New York City.
