Charles Mulford Robinson (1869-1917), pioneering urban planner and the first Professor of Civic Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne. The civic and business leaders called upon him to draw up plans for city improvement, and this is his report. It relates first the history of the city with many illustrations and photographs, and suggests improvements in these three areas: 1. Elementary needs - paving, sidewalks, street improvements &c.; 2. The Street Plan, and 3. Parks, Playgrounds and Pleasure Drives.
