[Van Rensselaer, Cortlandt]. "One Faith:" or Bishop Doane vs. Bishop M'Ilvaine on Oxford Theology; exhibited in extracts from the writings of the Diocesans of New Jersey and Ohio. By a Presbyterian. Burlington: J. L. Powell, Printer, 1843. First Edition. [9146]

Brown printed wrapper, 9 x 5 3/4 inches, 72 clean pp. Very good. Pamphlet.

“In the following pages, the reader may expect to find a brief views of the Roman, Oxford and Protestant systems of religion, in reference to various fundamental points. The comparatively little difference between the Roman and Oxford systems, will abundantly appear from Bishop M’Ilvaine’s remarks, during the progress of the discussion.”

24 different topics are listed, including Roman ones such as Extreme Unction, Celibacy, Saints' Days, with parallel columns from the writings of the Bishops side-by-side, comparing their positions with one another.

The writer concludes that 1. Oxford Divinity is a fire-brand in the Church, 2. it is against the 39 Articles of the Church of England, 3. it is essentially Romish, and, 4. it shows the fallibility of Liturgies in preserving doctrinal integrity.
