The title at the head of chapter one is, Martyria: or Early Unitarian Times. This is historical fiction based upon the early days of the Reformation in England.

William Mountford (1816-1885), b. Kidderminster, England; d. Boston, Massachusetts. Mountford entered the ministry in England, but suffered from a weak constitution and poor health. He gave up his charge and sailed for the United States, where he preached as a guest at several Unitarian churches, including at Boston and at Washington, D.C. He married in 1853, after which he devoted his energies to writing and to travel.
