Old South Leaflets: Volume I. 1-25. Boston: Directors of the Old South Work, ca 1910. [10245]
Blue pebble cloth with gilt spine titles, 8 x 5 1/2 inches, a few tiny white spots on the binding, tight. Each pamphlet paged separately, 25 items in all, clean, tight. Very good. Hardcover.
The first of these leaflets were published in 1896 and the first 25 of them are gathered here into a cloth-bound volume. They are very early American historical accounts, or items that relate to the establishment of the United States.
Included are items that you would expect to find - Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, Articles of Confederation, &c. - and some that might seem out of place. These would be Magna Charta, the Scottish National Covenant, Coronado's Letter to Medoza (1540).
Other items of interest include The Charter of Massachusetts Bay; Eliot's Narrative, 1670; Wheelock's Narrative, 1762; Washington's Inaugurals; Franklin's Plan of Union, &c.
