The Mendon Association of Congregational ministers were alarmed at the "increasing prevalence of infidelity" and they published this book full of proofs of the validity of the Bible and the Christian religion. If focuses mainly on miracles and fulfilled prophecies, and includes a chapter of "Strictures on Deistical Writings." This was the first and largest publication issued by the Association.
Rev. John Robinson of Westboro wrote the chapter on The Need and Importance of a Divine Revelation; Rev. David Sanford on The Spirituality of the Bible; Rev. Nathanael Emmons on Miracles; Rev. Caleb Alexander of Mendon on Prophecies; and the Strictures on Deistical Writers was written by Rev. John Crane of Northbridge. - see Blake, A Centennial History of the Mendon Association (1851).
