He had served only three months of his appointment to the office of Professor of Ecclesiastical History, Church Government, and Pastoral Theology in their Theological Seminary before death swept him away, and the vacancy must be filled.
The General Synod chose the Rev. James S. Cannon, D.D., to fill the position.
