Full brown leather with black leather spine title label, binding with a few stains yet very good with no cracks or damage, 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches. Contemporary small peach color paper label inside front cover, "Sold by G. Tracy, Utica." 1028 pages, light foxing, one leaf with horizontal tear; front and back free end papers (blanks) torn with loss. Good. Hardcover.

"Carefully corrected and improved from the last London quarto edition by John Carey, LL. D....Stereotyped by B. & J. Collins, N. Y." 

This corrected edition by John Carey (1756-1826) was first published in 1816. Carey was an Irish classical scholar, the brother of Mathew Carey, the Philadelphia publisher.

Thomas Morell, D.D. (1703-1784), English classical scholar, educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. He was an accomplished librettist, collaborating with Handel on at least six of his oratorios, of which collaboration Morell wrote a detailed account.

Robert Ainsworth (1660-1743), English Latin lexicographer; he worked for twenty years compiling his Dictionary of the Latin Tongue. Improved editions were made my Samuel Patrick, John Ward, William Young, Isaac Kimber, and Thomas Morell. Additional abridgements or improved versions were published in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
