Robert Benton Seeley (1798-1886), b. & d. London, England. Publisher and author, the third generation of booksellers in his family.

"Seeley was brought up in the traditions of evangelical churchmanship, and his publications were mainly confined to books expounding evangelical opinions." He published the works of Richard Cecil, many of the publications of the Church Missionary Society, and biographies of Hannah More, John Newton, and Henry Martyn. "He wrote many articles for publication, and several books, most notably "Essays on the Church, by a Layman, 1834, which went through many editions. Its object was to show that church establishments were in accordance with scripture, and that secession from the communion of the English church was not justifiable." - DNB.

In this book, Essays on Romanism, Seeley intends to expose the errors of Romanism and contrast them with Protestant beliefs. He treats mainly with the Rule of Faith, Marks of the True Church, Infallibility, Idolatry, and the Destiny of Romanism as revealed in Prophecies.
