Stéphanie Félicité, comtesse de Genlis (1746-1830), a popular and prolific French writer, the first female teacher of royal princes; she directed the education of the children of Philippe, Duke d' Orléans. She was a member of one of the oldest noble families in France, and was exiled during the French Revolution. Her writings give insight into the life of the nobility of France at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries.
