Emma Eaton b. 1869 at Canton, Ohio; in 1906 she and her husband began missionary work in Bangalore. She was a missionary for over 42 years, until 1920 affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. When she was refused reappointment due to her health, she and her husband formed their own prayer and support group - Heart of India Mission Band - based in Pasadena, California. They returned to India under the auspices of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. They soon renamed their organization and moved it to Bangalore as the India Gospel League, with the former Nazarene missions secretary E. G. Anderson becoming the administrator. Their independent work did receive some financial support from many members of their former denomination. "Mother" Eaton did not retire until she was past 80 years of age.
Basil Miller (1897-1978), b. Laconia, IN; Church of the Nazarene pastor, college teacher, and writer of evangelical literature beginning in the mid-twentieth century. After suffering a severe head injury and heart attack he took to writing during his convalescence. He wrote a many books for Zondervan Publishing house; prolific, he wrote over 200 books and thousands of periodical articles, presenting his subjects in a lively and compelling style. He wrote biographies of many Christian leaders, including Charles Finney, Martin Luther, David Livingstone, John Wesley, Chiang Kai-Shek, Ann Judson, and Florence Nightingale, as well as the “Ten Famous” Series.
