Black blindstamped cloth with gilt device to front and back, gilt decorated spine, all page edges gilt, 6 1/4 x 4 inches, a little wear to the top of the backstrip and corner tips. Tightly bound with green end papers, quite a bit of foxing, some pencil scribbles on the back end papers. Complete, with pages running [i]-ix, [x (blank page), [17]-206 pp.
The Four Parts are I. Practical Thoughts, II. Sacred Poetry, III. Extracts from Letters, and IV. Rules of Life. The practical thoughts are all focused upon becoming and being a Christian.
Rev. Amos W. Seely (1805-1865), born in New York City, a Dutch Reformed minister. He graduated from Union College in 1828 and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1831. "His ministry wsa spent chiefly in the Reformed Church in Western New York, and was greatly blessed in its results. He was a plain, earnest, practical preacher; a man of guileless character and tender piety...He published two works which passed through several editions, Doctrinal Thoughts and Practical Thoughts." - M'Clintock and Strong.
