Francesco Schupfer (1833-1925), b. Chioggia, Venice; d. Rome, Italy. He studied law at Innsbruck and Heidelberg, completing his university studies in Vienna. His studies and views led him to advocate for a gradual rediscovery of Roman law and away from the remnants of the medieval and Germanic law.
At the time this book was written, Schupfer was "Dottore in Legge e Docente di Storia del Diritto, presso l'Universita di Padova."
