Francis Aloysius Baker (1820-1865), b. Francis Asbury Baker at Baltimore; d. New York City. Father Baker changed his name after converting to the Roman Church. He was educated at Princeton University and ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in 1846, and was a pastor in Baltimore. The influence of the Oxford movement led him to convert and become a Catholic in 1853. In 1856 he was ordained a Redemptorist Priest.

He followed Father Isaac Hecker into the newly-founded Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle, and was a zealous and effective missionary. His fragile health and his work amongst the poor in New York City led to his contracting typhoid fever, from which he died in 1865, age 45.
