The father, Rev. David Watson (1772-1831), was an Associate Presbyterian minister who was educated under Rev. John Brown of Haddington.
The son, John Watson, died at the age of 18, in 1819; his sister in 1820. The author of these memoirs, the Rev. Henry Belfrage, D.D. (1774-1835), was also a member of the Associate Synod, and was a friend of the father and his family. Belfrage preached the funeral sermon of all three persons.
