Johnson, Crisfield. Centennial History of Erie County, New York; Being its Annals from the Earliest Recorded Events to the Hundredth Year of American Independence. Buffalo, N. Y.: Printing House of Matthews & Warren, Office of the "Buffalo Commercial Advertiser", 1876. First Edition. [9463]

Green cloth, spine dull, some light edge-wear, top front corner bumped, bottom cover with a few small blotchy stains, 9 x 6 inches. 512 pp., tight, a little foxing.

A history of the county, using original and previously published sources.

"Nearly all of the first hundred pages of my history, and much of the next hundred, are drawn from Turner's 'Holland Purchase,' Ketcham's "Buffalo and the Senecas,' and Stone's 'Life of Red Jacket.' He also relies on other works for the sketches of the 21st, the 100th, and 116th New York Volunteers.

Many town and county histories were published during the American Centennial of 1876, often, as this one is, of very good quality.
