This academy was founded in New Market, New Hampshire in 1818 and moved to Wilbraham, Massachusetts in 1824. Rev. Dr. Wilbur Fisk was its principal from 1824 to 1831. It was originally established by the Methodist ministers of New England and was intended for both general students and for those intending to enter the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal church.
