The author was an early member of the church. He begins with a history of the area before the church was founded and describes Topsham in 1815. He relates what is known of the earliest elders or pastors - Elihu Purrington, Henry Kendal, Charles Johnson, George Knox, and deacons Elijah White & Jabez Perkins. He tells of the revivals in 1825, 1834, 1835, and 1840. He ends by describing the doctrine of the church, that they have always held to the truth of God's endless retribution for sin, and the necessity of the Holy Spirit's work in the human heart.
