Luther Orlando Emerson (1820-1915), b. Parsonsfield, Maine; d. Cambridge, Massachusetts. Emerson studied under Isaac B. Woodbury, and afterwards began to teach singing, direct choirs, and to compose his own music. After small success in publishing, in 1857 he entered into an arrangement with the Oliver Ditson Company, of Boston, who promoted his music books with great success.
