This musical society was founded in 1815 and continues today. It sought to cultivate a correct taste for sacred music and to introduce Handel, Hayden and other musical geniuses to the American public. In the 1830s, the society presented David, an oratorio by Haydn's pupil Sigismund von Neukomm, 55 times.
