Includes notices of a donation of $20,000 by George Peabody of London, who was born in Danvers in 1795, "for the promotion of knowledge and morality among us." One of the establishments as a result of the donation was the Peabody Institute, which was a library in Danvers.
South Danvers adopted the name "Peabody" in 1868, in honor of George Peabody, who has become known as the "father of modern philanthropy."
