Harvey Newcomb (1803-1863), b. in Thetford, Massachusetts, a Congregational minister. He was “a voluminous author” who contributed mainly to children’s literature, writing over 105 volumes, many for the American Sunday-School Union. He also contributed to the press and was editor of several newspapers, including The Western Star (1826-9), The Buffalo Patriot (1829-30), and as the associate editor of the New York Observer (1851-2).
