Rev. Jonathan Nelson Webb, D.D. (1811-1897), b. Brownsville, NY; d. Lincoln, Nebraska. He studied at Madison (now Colgate) University but did not finish due to poor health. He was the pastor of Baptist churches in upstate New York in the middle years of the nineteenth century. He was sent by the American Baptist Home Missionary Society to Ashland, Nebraska, where he served as district secretary for the Nebraska and Dakota territories (1870-1879).

"These were years of wonderful toil, in cold and heat, amid difficulties that would have discouraged weaker hearts. His memory and name will be long remembered in the Baptist churches of Nebraska." - Cathcart, The Baptist Encyclopedia (1881).
