Romolo Murri (1870-1944), Italian politician, Catholic priest, founder of the periodicals Vita nuova and Cultura sociale. Murri was an enthusiastic support of the Catholic social movement and of Christian Democracy. His political ideas put him in direct conflict with the Vatican, and he was excommunicated in 1909. He continued to publish, his efforts now going to the periodical Rivista di cultura, the organ of the Lega democratica nazionale. He returned to the Church in 1943. - New Catholic Encyclopedia.
