Simon Greenleaf (1783-1853), b. Newburyport, Massachusetts; d. Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1806 hew was admitted to the Cumberland County bar; "He was reporter of the Supreme Court of Maine from 1820 to 1832, and published nine volumes of Reports of Cases in the Supreme Court of Maine (1820–1832)." - wiki.

In 1833 he became Dane Professor of Law at Harvard University. Among his other accomplishments, Greenleaf was for many years the president of the Massachusetts Bible Society.

His book The Testimony of the Evangelists, Examined by the Rules of Evidence Administered in Courts of Justice, published in 1846, was a study of the life and trial of Jesus on the basis of a legal examination, an apologetic that has been found to be convincing of the truth of the Gospels by many people.
