Eugene Roland Kellersberger (1888-1966), b. Cyprus Mill, Texas; d. Melbourne Beach, Florida. Dr. Kellersberger was a medical missionary with the American Presbyterian Congo Mission (1916-1940) and General Secretary of the American Mission to Lepers. He was a pioneer in the treatment of leprosy and also worked to reduce the stigma associated with the disease. "During his24 years in the Congo he was medical secretary of the Congo Protestant Council, a member of the Royal Commission for Protection of Natives and a delegate to the first World Leper Congress, in Cairo, Egypt, in 1938. He was founder of the Bibanga Agricultural Leper Colony and of the Bibanga Medical Service and Hospital. King Leopold of Belgium appointed him a member of the Pére Damien Leper Foundation, in 1939, and he was named a chevalier of the Belgian Royal Order of the Lion and a chevalier of the Belgian Royal Order of the Crown." - New York Times obituary, Jan. 31, 1966.
