David Edwin (1776-1841), b. Bath, England; d. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Edwin became renown for his stipple engravings. He studied engraving in England and Holland, and came to America in 1797.

"At first employed by the Philadelphia publisher, J. B. Freeman, early in 1798 he entered the workshop of Edward Savage with whom he was associated until 1801. He made an independent reputation shortly after leaving Savage by his engravings of several portraits by Gilbert Stuart. Edwin continued to engrave, chiefly in Philadelphia, until about 1831." - The New-York Historical Society's Dictionary of Artists in America, 1564-1860. (1957).
