James Lloyd Breck (1818-1876), b. Philadelphia, Pa.; d. Benicia, Ca. An Episcopal priest, Breck served most of his ministry in the American West, founding schools and missions among several Indian tribes, both during times of peace and times of war. He became known as "The Apostle of the Wilderness." He is commemorated on April 2 in the calendar of the Episcopal Church, USA.
