Two volumes in tree calf, black leather title labels, both have cracked front joints, nothing detached, bindings are edge-worn, 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches. The set has 17 folding plates, mostly maps, in good condition, one with a marginal tear. xxii, [2], 360; vi. [2], 336, [xxvi]. Includes an Index (catalogue) and errata page. Good. Hardcover.

First published in 1708, it went through several editions; this set was issued in a new edition by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge in 1835.
Edward Wells (1667-1727), "a learned English divine," mathematician, geographer, and controversial writer. He also produced a critical edition of the Greek New Testament. "He was esteemed one of the most accurate geographers of his time." - DNB.
