Miscellaneous: Cantoral de Missas
Back to Haaswurth Books home page.
The latter half of the book has two additional distinct sources of leaves. Also, two illuminations have dates from the 1580's. We will explain as we go along below.
This one has a note on where to find the accompanying hymns.
****************************************
Here is an example from the second style of leaves, with a larger initial than most.

A typical page in this section.

The second manuscript title or directory page.

A close photo of part of the directory.

Interesting symbolism.

And other beasts.

Skulls & bones.

This begins a different third section of leaves. Notice there no stem lines.

A typical page of this shorter section.
****************************************
The very different "K" in Kyrie or Kirie seen here.
****************************************
This floral painting takes up a large portion of a leaf in this section. There is (to us) indecipherable writing beneath it.
****************************************
Agnus Dei
****************************************
This page near the end looks like the leaves found at the beginning of the book. The stem lines return.
****************************************
But soon after in this end section, we have the Latin Creed with no stem lines.
****************************************
Another note of direction on where to find needed material.
****************************************
Finally, we have the inside of the rear cover, with probably 19th century repairs. Several leaves in the latter section have detached and are laid in. There are approximately 320 leaves in the volume.
